Good question, the Native American thought that using natural drugs gave a look into the unknown and that these visions were of a spiritual nature.

People have long thought that psychedelics can do that, such as First Nations people with peyote. But does it really, or is it an illusion? Probably the latter. I can enhance spirituality in many ways without using drugs

I came across a few documents similar to this article about 7 years ago when I was reading about healing through "charka", "body centre", "yoga", "Tibetan meditation". NOW- I, me of all people, saw compelling possibility that this on some level is spot-on. The articles I read made comparisons with prayer, meditation, psychotropic drugs, an area of the brain to arrive at the possibility that there is a human-spirituality bridge. I was moved to a level of belief-possibility. Enjoyed the article PO1 Tony Holland but I certainly, without fail believe in my Christian GOD.
