There was a time when the U.S. would be taking the lead.

Maybe it will calm those who believe the U.S. is war-mongering.

Well the Koreans and the Japanese have had such pleasant relations that this should surprise no one...well except that the South Koreans were part of the meeting too. I think it should surprise NO ONE that South Korea and Japan are more concerned about North Korea than others because Kim Jong-in is the rabid dog in their neighborhood? When you have a rabid animal in the city, that is bad but when it is your next door neighbor...well then it is real.
So of course, the next question is: 'What do you do with the neighbor who has a rabid dog or even worse, the neighbor is the rabid dog?'

Talks on rhetoric on the DPRK is time-pass, I feel. Sometimes we need to take action to quash an misguided subordinate and that move requires guts and grit. Making Japan a mouthpiece to take a wild beast on the prowl is identical to having loudspeakers in the JSA for a propaganda campaign. Both sides already do it, so why invent another. Additionally, Japan is one of the nations that Kim wants a piece of; Kim has Okinawa in his sights - the extension rhetoric of the MDL into the MDL-X, which extends the MDL to Okinawa and into the Yellow Sea to China. I believe the Chinese are behind Kim's exploits and adventure.
