That is a ludicrous premise PO1 Tony Holland. Just look at government run healthcare in UK and Canada to name two nations which embrace liberalism and socialism
The Affordable Care Act AKA Obamacare cost me my career as a senior consultant with LMI after 20 years.
The ACA has hurt far more veterans than private health care has because the ACA drove up costs and prices. Of course labor unions are opposed to private health care because they can't control it. I feel sympathy for the rank and file in traditional labor unions. I have no sympathy for public sector unions including teachers unions.
Public service unions are opposed to private health care because they are essentially opposed to what benefits the people who pay their way namely the taxpayers of this nation.

LTC Stephen F.
MSgt (Join to see) - yes, I was amazed to read his comment which I had to read a couple times. I thought he may be a troll but he seem to be a legitimate RallyPoint member who seems to be a rabid-anti-Republican. To be honest I have no idea why he interjected his anti-Republican comments.

LTC Stephen F. - This individual has been warned about his comments on numerous occasions in the past, use of bad language, and attacking comments; and just has a bad attitude about everything. The best policy is to just block him. He's got nothing positive to say about anything and really doesn't represent anything good about our Army and Veterans - very sad that we've got to have individuals like this on the site. Just ignore him and he may go away - just my two cents!

Me personally, I have no problem with the VA. I live in a Republican majority state the actually cares about veterans. Never have to wait for anything. The worst thing that happened in the last 8 years was combining some of the services with another state. Slowd the Survivor Benefits darmatically. As far as Unions go they haven't done their members any favors. A lot of my friends pay more in dues than I do for Health Insurance.

This is a membership drive. Although classified as a category 3, I have used the private medical care systems with no problems, with the exception of a couple facilities that wouldn’t accept government programs that slow pay and low pay. From BLS.gov
Public-sector workers had a union membership rate (34.4 percent) more than five times higher than that of private-sector workers (6.4 percent). (See table 3.)
