Shooting down your own missile as part of a pre-arranged test is one thing. Shooting down a potential threat launched without prior warning is another. We should be practicing shooting down their practice shots.

True, but our missile is orders of magnitude better. So if we can shoot it down, we can shoot theirs down. That said, I agree. We should be shooting their tests down.

CPT Jack Durish SN Greg Wright Exactly, allegedly there is a shooter in the South China sea 24/7/365 to include Christmas where they celebrate the birth of the Korean Jesus. Now two of four FDNF assets are OOC but I hope we have kept that gap closed. So AGEIS knows everything about the missile as soon as it detects it (mainly because ballistic trajectories are easy math we all did in high school) I would also hope that the ROE is in place that should such weapon violate a allies sovereign air space the CO of the ship should have the authority to fire a counter battery. Just saying not trying to judge here.

I still wonder why we did not shoot the missile down that flew over Japan.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - Good point but that is why you try to shoot it down over the open ocean.

LCDR (Join to see) - I'd prefer shooting it down on lift off. Let NK take the damage

The problem from what I'm under standing from our posture in the region we have THAAD there but policy wise they are only allowed to engage missiles headed for South Korea not Japan. Japan has missile defenses but they have not clarified why they didn't engage.
