This is real. Nation Monument status closes the land to extraction leases, as well as some forms of recreational activities. In the case of Bear Ears, the state of Utah wants the land "returned" so it can be sold off.

As an FYI, the federal land out here in the west was unclaimed, "no value" land, when the various territories became states. The federal government took control of the lands as part of the agreement for statehood.

No it's real and this administration has talked about this since before it existed. He talked about this on the campaign trail too.

That is disappointing to say the least. Our country is know for it's national parks and monuments. They are precious commodities that can never be replaced once destroyed.
