I wrote a series of weblog postings about my first two years in the Army: One year at Infantry School and a tour of Duty in Vietnam. I consolidated the postings into two Journals and offered them free of charge on Smashwords. I wanted there to be an honest record of what happened rather than the ideological narrative that journalists created and is now being used as "history". About 3,000 copies have been downloaded and I have heard from many readers. The book reports found on the Internet, produced by high school students who have read these are especially gratifying. I hope that this project will serve the same purpose as my independent effort.

SSgt Gary Andrews - It's Smashwords. There's a lot of good self-published books there, as well as a lot of crap. In other words, just about the same as Amazon

CPT Jack Durish - I started writing Smashwords.....how it came out Smashmouth, I have no idea. Maybe because football is close to starting? Anyway.......I'm on there and have enjoyed your first few chapters.......I can relate to the part about being stupid over a girl.......

I think it will be such a cool experience! I'll be able to meet new people and learn how to be a better writer. I have a few small published works but I am always looking to improve and take on larger projects. Also, I love the Virginia War Memorial so this is another reason to go hang out over there and take in the beauty and history.
