This was one of my favorite war movies growing up. I thought it was an incredible story of valor and courage on both sides. The Battle at Rourke's Drift followed the crushing defeat of a British column the previous day or so. They made a movie about the first battle a few years after Zulu called Zulu Dawn.
There is a great book on the Zulu Wars I read a few years ago called The Zulu War 1879 by Ian Knight. He tells the entire story very well and is an historian with a specialty in this area.
