Almost a year to retake a city - and its total destruction in doing so. The Battle of Manila is not mentioned in the article - but this is what such reminds one of. Why has strategy changed since WW2 to avoid such city fights when you do not have to conduct them is lost upon all thought. Victory can be achieved... but can anyone afford to pay such a price?
