You just have to be aware that all the jobs are not actually vacancies. Many of them are announcements to get a job filled, but someone has been waiting for that job for years, and there is no way for you to know. I have seen people retiring or leaving the military get really discouraged because they do not hear back, or get a "sorry you didn't make it." I always advise people leaving the military to apply, but at the same time, aggressively look outside the government also.
