The vast majority of missing children are runaways, said Nancy McBride, the executive director of Florida Outreach at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). In 2016, NCMEC worked with law enforcement and families on more than 20,500 cases of missing young people — 90% were cases of runaways. The amount of missing children reported has decreased in the last 10 years from 662,228 reported cases in 2006 to 465,676 cases of missing children reported to the FBI in 2016.

I would think a sizable number of the remainder would fall into "kidnapped child custody dispute" class.

The only way it could be kidnapping is if the non-custodial parent didn't bring them back after their visitation ended. I don't think that really happens all that much and when it does, I think they find the kids pretty quickly.
