Outstanding idea! In the 19th and early 20th Century, prospective immigrants had to demonstrate the capability to not be a burden on society before they were admitted to the US. Sometimes our humanity and generosity can get us in trouble. Coming to the US to live off the charity of our citizens is just wrong.

I'm ok with disbanding welfare all together. The system is broken, I personally know people able to travel to Euro-Disney, but "unable to work"...
Churches are tax exempt and estimates say that's about $82 Billion a year in tax revenue.
What do we get in return for this subsidy? Huge buildings and traffic problems on Sunday morning.
Not what God intended... "Give unto Ceasar what is Ceasar's"
-Mathew 22.
Most towns of any size have three churches and they bicker about each other, I don't think anyone goes to all three, and there are plenty of people of faith (like myself) that don't go to any of them... time to quit subsidizing other people's beliefs.

SPC David Hannaman - I'm going to ignore all the religious questions in your response for now and address the taxing of churches. I think it's a bad idea, because taxing churches requires changing their not-for-profit corporation status with the IRS and the States. If the Federal Government or State Governments attempted this there would be a gigantic class-action law suit that would stall the action in courts for decades. Church not-for-profits cannot be treated differently from other not-for-profit corporations under the provisions of the First and Fourteenth Amendments. If by chance, all not-for-profits are taxed, then many other organizations outside of churches would be taxed, sometimes with negative results for people who need their help. Not-for-profits include large corporations like the Red Cross, United Way, Goodwill Industries, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, major hospitals such as Barnes-Jewish where I live, and thousand of small charitable and benevolent organizations and foundations. Small organizations impact our everyday life including High School sports team support groups, foundations that grant scholarships and aide such as Optimists, Grange, and Masons. Also operating as not-for-profit corporations are foundations established by wealthy sports and public figures, including everybody's favorite, the Clinton (Crime Family) Foundation.
Simple principle of taxation: if you tax something, you will get less of it; if you do not tax or decrease tax on something, you will get more of it. I believe if you tax not-for-profit corporations, you will have fewer or smaller such corporations to the determent of all.

It haapend in 1996 whemn a bill made that law congress passed it with a large majority and Clinton signed it. Trump is just making noise as is usual.
When you get 2/3 of both houses of Congress and 3/4s of the state legislatures to agree with you on birthright citizenship then you can change that one. And that is about as likely as it snowing today in Death Valley. Nothing less than a Constitutional amendment will get that done.
