I don't think there is anything wrong with getting a certificate of completion after basic training. You get one for almost every other training in the Army, even two day physical security classes...

I wouldn't mind having a certificate with the EGA on it to hang on the wall, I worked hard to go through bootcamp, I didn't just show up.

This is a non-issue. Personally I don’t care how many medals I have, and never did.

I always though that my orders to report to my AIT training Unit was enough to say that I got through Basic Training, because if I hadn't I wouldn't be there

I got one. I don't see anything wrong with it. Keep in mind we even get certificates for doing the required online training (e.g. SHARP, CTIP, etc.) We usually get those classes done in under 5 minutes...

I don't see how getting a certificate is a big deal. The Air Force has issued training certificates for almost every training event for decades. I have about an inch high stack of them tucked away in a drawer. In the old days of paper records, they were very valuable if your organization had lost track of some fairly painful training, like traffic safety, and wanted to reschedule you to attend. I have them for a wide variety of events ranging from C-130 advanced pilot training (the course you attend as a LT after you first earn your wings) to race relations, to aircrew life support officer. In today's computerized world maybe the electronic record is considered ground truth, but it's hard to beat a paper certificate verifying training if the computer suffers from a bug.
Here's a couple of opinions and questions: The Spc 4 in the picture looks very sharp, but I still don't like the white shirt uniform. It doesn't look Army to me. The Army is supposed to wear green!
Anyway, I see the basic graduate is a Spc 4. How do you get to E-4 upon graduation?

I was an instructor at the Joint Services Photo School at Lowry. After I went from Infantry to the photo field everything for my MOS was at Lowry got a lot of certificates even for BNCOC. The good thing all the class' are taught at the college level and you get college credit for all of it. Although the only people who can get a degree from CCAF is active duty Air Force.

SSG Pete Fleming in the photo field your boots were spit shined and even though your not supposed to iron and starch the BDU's we did. We were always under the magnifying glass. Of course I retired in 1994.

Meh. Whatever. It doesn't hurt anything. I think the ASR is sufficient, but I'm not going to get all excited about it, either way. I was interested to learn that the beret is "one of the Army's most treasured symbols".
(yes, I know that the ASR is at the end of AIT, not basic.)

Served for 10 yrs. Got 3 GCM's and not one AAM or any other thing that is given out to the rest.. Don't care either.. And yes I still have all the certs I got while in for EEO and safety courses we had to take... 2nd place is just the FIRST looser...

When I was in and towards the dnd of my Army career, there was talk of us transitioning to the black berets. I IMMEDIATELY HATED THE IDEA. However, I was just a buck sergeant and couldn't do a damn thing about it. The beret is EARNED. Not given out. I hated it because, I did not earn the right to wear it. I wasn't Airborne. I wasn't a Ranger. This was all being done (so we were told) because, higher echelon wanted a picture of unity. That everyone in the Army was the same. Newsflash! We're NOT! We already had looked the same before the beret. Same p.t.s, dress blues, dress geeens, b.d.u s'. What set others apart was the beret. When we saw that, we knew that soldier had extra training and earned that respect. Much like the Navy when you see a trident. With that all being said. I don't disagree that the soldier certificate is a good idea upon completion. But, the only thing that should be different about it is that it should only be given once the recruit completes BOTH basic and a.i.t. I've seen people complete basic but not a.i.t.

When I was 11B this was 1974 each career field a different color beret. Cav was black that's what I wore. Now just about everybody gets black.
