These studies tend to only do one thing - further drive those groups whose sole existence is to drive wedges. They hardly even include how the person being pulled over is acting towards the officer. They rarely include what the stop was for (violation of ordinance/statute, suspect description similarity, etc). What I find ironic is that even officers of color were found to speak less respectfully to drivers of color. Not sure if this is indicative of how the driver is speaking to the officer?
There is a big to-do in my hometown because they just did one of these studies, too. Hell, there was an OIS a couple weeks back. The suspect had climbed to the top of a building & was taking pop shots at people. Didn't hit anyone, but got close. Dude was obviously unhinged. After multiple attempts to get him down & negotiations, the guy started shooting at officers. Obviously, they fired back, hitting him. Now, certain members of certain organizations here in town, are trying to push the narrative that the only reason he was shot is because he was a black American. No, I'm pretty sure the reason he was shot is because he was shooting at random people & officers from the roof of a building.

Well more than likely the members made those comments because their has been numerous instances as seen on the news and video where Caucasians have verbally disrespected and assaulted cops and taken into custody. Terrorist Dylan Roof was taken to burger king after murdering 9. The black guy you mentioned he deserved death, not an issue for me.

SSgt Ray Stone - I think they're nit-picking, though. That's the problem w/ the current media landscape. There may be thousands that are handled properly, but they'll pick out the one that is improper, or out of the ordinary, and blast us w/ it 24/7 for 3 weeks straight.

SSgt Ray Stone - I'm listening to the interview of the person claiming racism here in my hometown. She has been presented w/ the NHTSA facts on traffic stops/accidents broken down by all races. Instead of recognizing these statistics, she is simply stating the reported statistics have nothing to do with her claim that more people of black American origin are stopped. Its not that more traffic violations or accidents were reported for people with that particular origin than those of Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, or Caucasian descent. She is absolutely refusing to recognize this reality.

I am no math genius and I dropped out of college statistics because it made my head implode. With that in mind I will try to use some rational thought process with this study. The basic theory for the way the study was completed appears to be pretty sound based upon the use of "blind" subjects reviewing transcripts to get impartial results. However, instead of using 102 police interactions with black drivers, and 102 police interactions with white drivers they skewed it with 312 black drivers to 102 white drivers. Even then they only came up with a 4% variance which in theory is within the standard deviation +5/-5 for a properly weighted study.
EDIT: My conclusion, IMO, their findings are wrong, or at the very least tainted by a stacked deck.

Considering the post is from CNN that in itself calls it into question. I'm a retired Police Officer and Myself and My fellow Officers didn't address black drivers and different that white drivers . It serves no purpose at all to do so. A study ? what a waste of time, effort and money. Treat everybody fairly and the same and thing usually take care of themselves anyway. No point in making the job harder than it has to be.
