Thanks for reminding us SGT John " Mac " McConnell that of the many who sacrificed so much, four service members of the US military were awarded Medal of Honor for gallantry during the various actions of Operation Overlord initiated on June 6, 1944.
The submission of awards for valor requires first survivors of the action, second a good write-up nd third support from the chain of command. Many of the bravest actions no doubt had no survivors which is one reason why the Medal of Honor is so rare.

Undoubtably there were many other feats of courage performed on this "Day of Days" that were not recognized for the reasons cited by LTC Ford. Suffice to say the men that were saved as a result of these heroic contributions realized and appreciated the sacrifices made on their behalf.

Just think that one of these was Brigadier General Theodore Roosevelt Jr. Whom died July 12, 1944 of a heart attack.
Always a pleasure LTC Stephen F.
