I never understood having to sign in with a meal card in the first place. I guess it was to prevent those with allowances from eating free in the mess halls.

By the way, when I was in, you had to sign in with your meal card number and signature always and in every post I was ever stationed. And, they would check it!

they can't check if we are still up at the mechanic bay. they just made the meals and handed them to the boot. Mechanics have a tendency to not wanna stop when your halfway done, least my mechanics anyway. the Col. authorized it as long as the guy that went had a meal card XP

I love the Marine Corps, but would rather eat in a Navy Mess Hall, for sure.

When I was in CA for a short period the ANG "base" I was at was on Moffett Field. My unit was located on the second floor of a Navy hanger. They had a dining hall on the first floor. Man for the time I was there I ate well! $1.50 and you could take one of everything on the line. That was two lunches for me!

I think the Navy had the very best of everything. We had an overcoat that did not keep you warm, and a rain coat that did not keep you dry. Oh yes, and their Messhalls were second to none. In retrospect, I cannot remember anything nice about the Marines except the pride and spirit as a unit. Still, to do it over again, I would pick the Marines.

When my Battalion got back to Home Port it was Steak or Lobster. No wonder I am a Seabee.
