If they're getting rid of the Hummers, I'll take one. Drove one for two years, I like liked the Spartan simplicity.

SGT (Join to see) - I witnessed the M1114 in front of me's rear axle blow off after rolling over an ANFO IED back in OEF7. Those things were NEVER MEANT to handle the up-armor weight bolted on. I've seen front wheels pop right off too. Anything is better than those IMO.

Thanks for the information. I remember a few years back when anyone who could afford a commercial grade Humvee had to have one. I don't see many on the road nowadays.

I personally hated the Humvee... I know not everyone will agree. This new truck looks cool but is it practical? Is it worth the cost and can it do as much or more than what we have? Is there other places the DOD should spend our tax dollars?

About the tax dollars, I am not sure. I think the battlefield soldier needs a faster, more agile, and a safer vehicle. If it is faster and has better armor protection, I would be all for it. It looks like you can put some lethal hardware on top, too. According to the article:
"Armor
Humvees offered up far better protection to its occupants compared to the open air jeeps they replaced. In the same way that AM General improved the light tactical vehicle by adding a roof and doors, Oshkosh does the same by baking a base-level of armor into each JLTV. Utilizing lessons learned on its M-ATV MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle) program, the JLTV features a V-shaped hull to deflect blasts from below, bulletproof windows, and an armored crew capsule. Compared to an up-armored Humvee, a basic JLTV offers multiple orders of magnitude more protection from bullets and bombs to its occupants. Each JLTV is also capable of being fitted with a “B-Kit” of armor, boosting protection to MRAP-levels of protection."
That sounds pretty good!
