But... it's a service ship. I get the whole landmark, giving access to tourists and all that, but this was after hours for an active duty fleet vessel? Where was the DO? Where was SP? How'd a civilian slip on board after touring hours were complete?

SSG Carlos Madden - Damn, good point. Ship wouldn't be fully manned in dry dock.

I was just thinking about this a little more. The ship lives in a national park so basically the immediate area is probably policed by Park Rangers (Dept. of Interior). It's not until one steps foot on the ship that they are on military property. It does seem odd the Navy wouldn't have someone on watch, contractor or sailor, instead of relaying on the surrounding law enforcement to handle possible intruders. I wonder if they'll have one now if they didn't already.

SSgt Ryan Sylvester I'm with You, Where the Hell was the OOD. We had an OOD, POOW, Messenger while in Dry Dock, OK, I get it. It's a Ceremonial Ship with a Minimal Staff but Still.

Absolutely no regards for anything, history, the military, all the people who want to visit. The only thing crap like this will do is make it harder for people to want to enjoy this piece of history, to do so. Before you know it, you will have to sign up in advance, have a security screening done, etc. etc. CRAZY!!

They already have that. You have to go through a metal detector and checkpoint before they let you near the vessel. It sounds like this was done after hours while the ship is in dry dock.
