OMG! Deja vu all over again. Does anyone else remember the days of the Cold War when the Soviets were claiming credit for everything, simply everything? Who invented the airplane? The light bulb? Penicillin? Rock and Roll? (No, that was decadent) Bras? Fire? Hamburgers? You name it, a Soviet invented it first. Well, it seems that the Muslims, at least this Muslim, is resuscitating the practice...

CPT Jack Durish until they actually learn to do their own research with easily obtainable facts, it's up to us to try to educate them. If they go through life without ever taking advantage of their ability to reason, they'll be the ones indoctrinating future generations. Greg, use your brain, prove me wrong without going to modern sources only to return with "fake facts." Go find history books that predate your entry into the the indoctrination centers known as the public schools, i dare you.

My PPT is based on a secular Islamic civilization class I took at Texas Christian University. This is the textbook we used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/ [login to see] /ref=rental_ya
Stop being arrogant. You guys know almost nothing about this topic beyond some right-wing propaganda.
Texas Christian University is far from an "indoctrination centers known as the public schools."
What's your point about the Barbary pirates? They were bad guys? Cool beans. There's bad guys all over the world. Not convincing anybody with that.
What is convincing are the thousands of Muslim slaves brought to the Americas during the Atlantic slave trade. Now we all look like hypocrites. Esp. considering how abhorrently brutal American slavery was (read 12 Years A Slave by Solomon Northrop). Even US presidents owned Muslim slaves.
http://www.mountvernon.org/digital-encyclopedia/article/islam-at-mount-vernon/
Islam sure wasn't spread by the sword, but Christianity in America definitely was, considering the thousands of Muslims enslaved and forced out of their religion by either selling off their children or forbidding their practice and religious education. Disgustingly intolerant history of oppressing others we have, indeed.
Another example of America's history of oppression of Muslims: Mindanao and the Moro Rebellion. America signed the Bates Treaty granting them autonomy to keep them out of the Philippine–American War, then after the war violated the treaty and invaded Mindanao and the Sulu Archipelago, starting the war.

Lastly, in regards to your comment: "A PowerPoint Presentation? OMG! Please stop. You're cracking me up. I'm on the floor laughing and have work to do"
I don't see what is so funny? Have you ever been to a university? What do they teach with most of the time...? PowerPoints.
You guys are really high on your horse for being so uneducated about this topic.

What a stretch. Writer forgets Jesus came first, by 600 years. My first known immigrant ancestor from Germany did more for the American Revolution than millions of Muslims. He fought for the Pennsylvania volunteers for three years.

What's a stretch? Did you even read the article?
Muslims fought in the civil war and the American Revolution as well buddy:
Two hundred and ninety-two Muslims are known to have fought during the Civil War (Encyclopedia of Muslim-American History. New York: Facts on File. 2010. p. 561. ISBN [login to see] 408.).
General Washington had at least two Muslims on his roster, Bampett Muhammad and Yusuf Ben Ali.

Need to accept the fact that Muslims had an insignificant contribution to the American Revolution. Nothing against the religion, it's mainly a geographic issue. Muslims were too far away to immigrate to the Americas in large numbers.

There is no evidence that Yosuf Ben Ali or Bampett Mohammad were Muslims. They may have been Arab, or of Arab descent. Due to the lack of documentation, there is no evidence that these names were original. Many freed slaves from Africa may have been Muslims, but there is no evidence. Since the first Mosque in the USA was not established until 1929 in North Dakota, it is very hard to trace lineage through records that a religious institution may keep.

I believe many Muslims may have fought in the American Civil War. They were mainly freed slaves who fought on both sides. I also believe that many Africans may have Muslin heritage, but converted to Christian religions. Having a Muslim name does not make one Muslim. One cannot assume a person's religious beliefs based purely on name or country of origin. Not all Africans were Muslims. Very few outside the Northeastern corner of Africa were Muslim. Majority of coastal Africans were Christian through efforts of European missionaries. Those living internally had no institutional ties to organized religion.

Yes, all these principals are in practice in the states that are predominantly Islamic, or did they miss something?

The book "Lost Islamic History" is a good read, you can find it on Amazon. It will explain quite a bit.

This is a really good article that clarifies a little bit about the recent history of the MENA region: http://www.ecowatch.com/syria-another-pipeline-war [login to see] .html

So that explains why the Armenian genocide occurred? Some Islamic scholars figured a better but the ideas went nowhere in Islamic countries.

About how great Islamic thinkers influenced the enlightenment and the American revolution. To bad they didn't have more continuing influence on Islamic governments is my point.
