I have a LinkedIn account, and during the 5-day DOL Workshop (part of SFL-TAP) the instructor gave us a link where Servicemembers can get a free Premium account for a year. She wasn't sure that LinkedIn would rescind it after a year. I wish I had the link for that. I like LinkedIn because it truly is a networking site made for business relationships. LinkedIn also does not have the silly political crap that's on here, making it more professional. Many job sites allow you to apply for jobs using your LinkedIn profile as well, so that's another bonus.

It's very apparent that you have spent some time refining your LI profile. I do like how you added in your military awards. If I could offer some constructive criticism: the profile is overtly military and it's understandable. I'd get some civilians to look at it and ask them to redline anything they don't understand. I'd also recommend asking for endorsements per each of your job assignments. Besides that the profile looks well constructed.

You may want to relook the comments on the WO Candidate School and reason for not being accepted. You could delet that entirely on your resume or reword it.

I found the link for the military free premium spiff doing a search on Linkedin, and the initial sign up was rather quick. That said, I did it about 5 days ago, and the needle has yet to move.

I do not see why it should be a case of "either or". Use them both. The advantage of LinkedIn is that it has a wider circle of members. Depending on what kind of position you are seeking, that is good. Rally Point (and the veteran-specific pages of LinkedIn) are good for ideas to get you through the transition. But the key now is to see a wide variety of thoughts as you determine which direction you want your next career to go. Remember, now that you are "out" all decisions made are yours alone; no one is there to tell you what job you will be doing and where you will be living.

For me, neither have been very beneficial. Depending on the circle your in on Linkdin, it may help to transition into a contracting position. Most of my contacts are from years of experience in my skill set now. Sort of "word of mouth" more than anything.
