LOL... I have to agree with some of what he says, although, as a a die-hard University of Alabama Crimson Tide fan, I have no problem at all with Nick Saban making in excess of $7M per year. Due to the success of the Alabama football team, the University makes in excess of $100M per year off of ticket sales, TV revenue, etc. The Chancellor of the University of Alabama system once famously stated that hiring Nick Saban was the best financial decision the University had ever made. ROLL TIDE!!!

PO3 Donald Murphy - I think that is just a matter of what the university chooses to do with the money. Sounds like money earned by the sports programs in the schools you mention are kept within the Athletic Department. I believe most schools share the income with the General Fund or whatever.

COL Jean (John) F. B. - Yes. The colleges in question claim that the money is earned "by the school, for the school," but the Athl dep ends up keeping it. Then they use the mantra that they need it to buy draft picks, etc, which is a legitimate reasoning, but then questions the whole purpose of the college. My daughter is presently fighting the battle with Florida Institute of Technology. She has a scholarship, but as they now have a "college football team," the value of her scholarship is dropping. They've raised the tuition to cover building a stadium, hiring coaching staff, etc.

PO3 Donald Murphy - If they are "buying draft picks" they are doing something illegal... :-) All in all, the athletic programs at the big-name sports schools help with the universities' financial situation. The coaches who get the big bucks earn it and the return on investment is very good.

Okay. A lot of what he is reporting is true. A lot of laws exist from back in the 1800s. No one has ever bothered to change them. In my hometown it is still illegal to spit on sidewalks and streets. As Capt Jack Furnish pointed out, college football cos he's make a lot of money. As well as basketball coaches. But they bring in a lot of money from endorsements, TV and bowl games. Most conferences allow the college to deduct the expenses then the rest goes into a fund that is divided amongst the other colleges. As far as toddlers and guns, we consider toddlers be be pre preschool, not 9-10 years of age. The European mindset is we are all overpaid and oversexed and backwards. Hence the Bubba comment

Speaking as an American married to a European - English as a matter of fact - I have lived in Europe many years, visit yearly, worked there, etc. And while I can or can't debate the truth of the news he reports, I can debate that he is a majority of 1. The average European listens to very little "American news" other than the weather with which to plan their vacation around. So I have to wonder where he is in fact, getting his information from. There is no shortage of European family friends coming over to visit. So it would be interesting to know the names of the offended Europeans that contributed to the films' research. None of my Euro friends/family turn down invitations to go shooting, mudding, etc. And virtually all will insist on using drive throughs at every opportunity if for no other reason, to prove me wrong ("what? Open 24 hours? No. I don't believe that. Let's go..."). And while people may think it's weird (he does), I don't have to train/teach my Euro family and friends anything. They settle into a groove quite naturally. I never have to say "oh wait - is it too early for us to go to dinner," etc.

A few of his items are true, but then there is a difference of necessity. Many companies in America only give you 30 minutes for lunch. So naturally your lunch is going to be faster. When working in England I routinely had 2 hour lunches (and still left work at 4:00!!). Now, like America, a few large Euro cliques own the media and depending on what their agenda is, thats what you're going to hear on the news. The average Euro tends to pay scant attention to the craziness that we report on ourselves. About the only thing in Europe that gets any guaranteed 24X7 coverage/listenership is football (soccer). The world could be coming to an end but if the European Cup is being played, forget it. News won't be able to warn you.

His costs are also wrong. Public servant is not a job. If you are a bus driver and run for office **AND WIN** you are still a bus driver. My wife's niece is presently running for "congress" and is a housewife. So guess what her salary will be? And European doctors/university teachers/teachers period, earn very little. In fact, USA doctors are the highest paid in the world. So there's that old reporter agenda thing again... His patriotism is also suspicious. My Euro family all have flag stickers on their cars, bikes, etc. There are also flag-flying holidays that are observed. Perhaps he forgot about those days? Try walking in London on the Queen's birthday without bumping into an English flag. My wife and I have no problem "spotting Europeans" at the airport. They're all wearing "patriotic" gear.

He also forgets patriotic ties. Allow me to explain: Europeans wear school uniforms and each school has a different color tie. Military the same. So if I see a guy wearing a hunter green tie with a gold stripe, I know that he is/was a "national guardsman," etc. So while the average European may not have a "proud to be a vet" ball cap, they do wear their crests and unit badges. Europe also has its share of silly laws still on the books. In fact, an incredibly popular thread going on is "ten illegal things to do in London" and one of them is "flying a kite in a park." Check it out. Its full of equally "stupid" craziness.
