Why America Purchased 21 Lethal Russian Mig 29 Fighters

It's ranked #5 on the list of top selling fighter jets behind the F-16, Su-27, F/A-18, and F-15. There are roughly 800 operating around the world so the likelihood of encountering one is pretty good. The US acquiring 21 would be good training for our pilots.

Without watching I thought maybe they were bought to use at Nellis AFB for Red Flag. I think they were using F-5's for aggressors in the past before switching to 16's and 15's. This years exercise kicked off in Jan. and was first to incorporate F-35 with F-22 on Blue Team. I guess the Mig's were better utilized for R&D and intel since 97. Not sure if they got any maintenance-related gear with the buy, so that would make it hard to use in that training capacity. Thanks for sharing.
