Phantom jocks were legendary........I loved the story about a Marine Phantom jock that was providing close air support to some grunts that were in it up to their necks. After unloading all of his heavy stuff, he made several runs with his machine guns going. After he spent all of his ammo......legend has it.......he made one last pass, going as slow as he could and still stay airborne, low enough to look his targets in the eyes, opened his canopy, and emptied his .45 caliber handgun into the enemy. Only then did he leave the theater and head back to base. Don't know how true this is......but it sure made the rounds while I was overseas.

The TV series "JAG" recreated this event in one of their episodes, with the main character (CDR Rabb) performing the deed. At the end of the episode, proper credit was given to Pardo and the original event.
