The "Powel Doctrine" is an excellent plan to follow in any of our deployments to combat areas. Unfortunately.......we haven't followed it in any of our deployments in the Middle East. We continue to put troops in harms way, with no clear plan for the end game. This is very concerning.....

Excellent insight I would agree wholeheartedly with you SSgt. When the dust settles what's next? Security, governing body, infrastructure and meeting basic needs are just a few relative topics that concern me. We've done well at leaving a vacuum in many countries we've "supported" only to see that country slide back into civil unrest and factions/dictators reclaim the people and the country. We've heard that insanity is repeating the same behaviors and expecting different results. Does this apply to these great United States or is it still about MONEY? Remember a lot of money exchanges each time we entrench ourselves in a war. Your thoughts?

I agree about the money trail......as long as there are profits to be made in war, there will be war. Primary cause for being there.....or a side effect of being there? Hard to tell sometimes.

"...are we just going to abandon these 100K soldiers..." Damn good question to which I can only respond, haven't we abandoned them before? After the first Gulf War?

PO1 John Crafton - Given the performance on the battlefield of the various actors in your scenario, I put my money on the Kurds

PO1 John Crafton - We sent in troops to free the area from ISIS, the Kurds helped that would be the reason. From now on when we have to sacrifice troops we should be requiring something in return.

PO1 John Crafton - With all that said I do agree Turkey would lose their Mind, Syria and Iraq have no say in it but I think the King of Jordan would go along if State would make it worth it.
