I have seen countless formats for the "perfect" resume. I have heard from countless hiring managers who have completely different views of the "perfect" resume. The only thing I believe that everyone should remember is keep doing what works and trash what doesn't. What's the difference? What's the purpose of the resume? To inspire interest. No resume will get you a job. The best you can hope for is a telephone call. The point of the resume, the cover letter, the telephone call, etc, is to get an interview. That's where you'll make your case to get the job. So, do whatever it takes to pique someone's interest and get that interview.

Occasionally neeed to take it out and dust off the cobwebs and get rid of the oldest job.. s'times you find stuff that just doesn't matter like it did back when you used it
The last time..

I worry about putting a "job objective" at the top of a resume. I once had an interview in front of a panel for a specific job. After the interview I was offered a completely different job. Had I put a tailored objective on the resume for this interview I would not have gotten the better opportunity, I might not have even gotten the job for which I was interviewed. I put skill sets at the top of my resume.

I went In to a job at a restaurant that I had scoped out that had adverts out for Cooks and an Assistant Chef or a Sous chef. In Military that be "First Cook". Who is the one that does the actual performing of the production of the menu items. Anyway I was listening to one of the Assist Mgr's talking to the Chef and they were discussing how they sere going to pick this assistant Chef or Sous Chef. and what they needed to know before they even stepped into the position.. it was certainly interesting to listen to (I happened to fall into what they were mentioning). I had my notebook and was writing stuff down.. what I didn't know was the bar guy was observing me writing stuff down when they mentionef stuff I had learned in my time in service(I had also worked the NCO Open Mess and Officer Open Mess and am proficient there also).. I seen him go over and talk to them and he pointed at me. They nodded and each went his way.. I finished my beverage and was about to leave..
I was walking out and Chef was outside observing the paying guests go in and satisfied ones go out.. He followed me a short ways and told me what the bartender said and asked me why I was taking notes. I told him and showed him my book with things checked and things with question marks.. while we talked he held onto my book..
then he asked if I was not in a hurry and I said no.. Come with me Mr....
Herrst I told him. We're just winding down and I'd like to show you back in our production area.. be careful, could be a bit slippery back there.. shouldn't be, It it happens.
We went back and he showed me slightly busy kitchen and people cleaning stuff up and putting stuff away.. back to the stores area.. pretty good size, Good sized walk-ins.. So do think you could handle all this? He asked. I didn't get a chance to answer, i think he seen my mind was made up.. I'll see you back here at 0830 in the a.m... My name is Craig, that other guy is Greg, He'll be the new General Mgr. if things go right.. so we shook hands and parted.. I was there by
0800 in the morning .. I had brought along my chef tools and uniform and a portfolio with.a copy of my Sanitatin /Health Training Certificate( that certified I met all obligations of a food service health trainiing class (NSF certified NAT'L testing. Meets state and county standards, that means no class(es)
To take and no test fee(s). Took that cmty Col. When there for Culinary/Restaurant Mgt. courses.
So I went in and asked for Chef and Greg came out and one of the first things I seen on his jacket was a bronze star min. Pin ribbon. I had
Not had any min. Pins on my jacket
Not because I remembered to not put them back on after I had washed the jacket but because I forgot .. Greg said Craig was taking care of getting the guys putting stock away.. and he'd help me with other parts the interviews(yes, more than one) .. well I filled out the app on the paper (a practice one). And made a few scratch outs.. took it back and their clerk retyped it into the computer after I made sure all my corrections were done.. she done in a few what took me 20 min. Copying from my portfolio.. various dates, references.. military service, educ. Jobs (1.. my time at NCO & O mess was counted as extra curricular to my duty jobs. He still counted them but treated like being loaned to them). We could really use you today, Boyd.. wait a minute, He got on the phone and called the county Health office and
Put my Sanitation/ Heath Class certificate in the Copier and sent the pic to the Health Dept. They said ok but have it available when they come in for inspection the next week. So, I got my Outfit on and he gave me a clipboard with a job sheet with a clear over over that .
My name was at the top with Assist. Chef following the comma after my name. Greg: Mr. C. , typed me in for starting at 8. The time I showed on the lot. That first shift was 9 hours.. but went fast ! There was definitely a lot to do !
