Thanks for mentioning the subject COL Mikel J. Burroughs. There are many variable in 'best and worst places" Here are some considerations I use:
1. Climate and health conditions impact many veterans - especially as we get past our 50s
2. Cost of living, proximity of food, gasoline/diesel stations, recreational activities
3. Proximity of suitable healthcare facilities
4. Government services and taxation
5. Proximity of airports, interstate, rail stations, etc.
6. City, suburban, country, deep in the woods, etc. Some of us are city dwellers while many want to get away from it all as much as possible.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs Tampa Florida top ten, agreed. Weather, gulf waters, nothing bad to say about Haley or Bay Pines VA. Wouldn't live directly in city of Tampa, but tons of great places to live all around city.

The Tampa area is great. Been there. It is far from the coast where the hurricanes hit, and even has some major league Spring Training teams there.
