To add on to SGT (Join to see)'s response, American Presidents are actually expected to work even on vacation. So in addition to his secret service detail, aides will also be on hand so he can handle matters of state.

please get your info correct-
Last December, CBS News reported that the number of vacation days President Obama has taken since the beginning of his presidency stood at 161 days. If you add the 28 days of vacation he has taken this year his total comes to 189 days. If you add his current vacation in Martha’s Vineyard to the mix that still puts him at under 200 days so far. Even if he took every day off the rest of his term in office that would only add an additional 153 days to his total – still placing him at less than half the vacation days of he predecessor.
However his predecessor, two-term President George W. Bush, took 879 days of vacation, including 77 trips to his Texas ranch according to a report by The Washington Post.
According to The Washington Post, “No modern president took less vacation than Jimmy Carter (79 days), while Ronald Reagan spent 335 days at his beloved California ranch.” ....

PO1 Don Gulizia - please read what the OP'er wrote concerning time and days.... I only addressed the days portion as the money portion I already knew was irrelevant. But since I was directed towards the money portion I had to respond :) On that note there are a few decent articles out there concerning cost.... I have browsed some and they give varying degrees... on thing to note is that the majority of costs are for staffers, Secret Service, AirForce 1, etc and not for the vacation itself... this my initial reasoning for not writing on the cost portion and only the time portion. Research is key- The OP'er did not even do a cursory bit of looking around and thus the second reasoning why I kept only to time and not cost. Maybe it had spurred him to actually do some fact checking instead of just howling at the by-line.... we have yet to find that out :)

SGT (Join to see) - Anymore, headlines are worthless. Come to think of it, most articles are equally worthless.
