Seems the trip by Kerry will accomplish nothing, oh wait that is His specialty accomplishing nothing !

He could easily get the NSF head to take the Metro to his office and give him a brief. He'd be the latest in a long line of boondoggles down there. If the C-17 was loaded with cargo and the plane that went to SP had cargo, the additional incremental cost wouldn't have been much. Two hours at SP is turnaround time, especially if they're pumping DFA. Alteration of people's schedule, time away from real work, etc. would have been the real impacts. I made 3 deployments there so don't think much of the whirlwind visitors. However, I did ensure a pile of snow got dumped on the Chief of Chaplains. Told him he's now properly baptized. Half hour laugh over that one.
