First must recognize there is an issue and most importantly accept the fact that asking for help is a sign of strength not weakness. Lastly if you see/think someone needs help say something and offer to assist.

'I didn't want to be a burden' and 'asking for help is seen as weakness'. These words and thoughts appeared in an article posted to RP just this week from a SM who suffered from PTSD and how she came to deal with it. The perception you mention is probably the core reason so much PTSD and other issues go unaddressed until the point of extremis has as passed.
