Alan K. - It was 8.9 cents a gallon at Ft. Rucker in 1973.

I fell in love with the red 1966 GTO when it was introduced. I was just starting high school, but I bought one two years after I graduated. It had a damaged engine, and a two speed automatic. I rebuilt the engine and installed the largest three speed automatic that would fit. I received my draft notice, the day that I got it running.

Mine was the 1966 GTO that I shoehorned a Turbohydromatic 400 transmission into. I had to have a custom 26 inch driveshaft made, to install it. I outran an original Z28 with it, at Ft. Rucker that had been in a speed shop for two months. The guy was in my company, and all we heard for two months was, "When I get my Z, I'll blow all your shit away!" He didn't even come close.
