This is very reminiscent of the discussions that we had and in some instances continue to have about the war in Viet Nam. In the mid-1990's I had the opportunity to return to Viet Nam as a business man after having served there as a soldier. During the visit I was touring a museum in Hanoi. I met a British couple who were touring the country and they asked me about my service and if I knew what I was doing there as a soldier. It was the same time that McNamara published his book revealing the fact that Washington had very little understanding of what we were doing or had done in Viet Nam... as for my response to the tourist -- I know exactly what my mission was... as always the warfighter on the ground has little doubt ... even if the politicians don't have a clue.

The mistake was the premature withdrawal after the war had been won and Iraq was well on the way to becoming a peaceful, inclusive democracy. Obama managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with his determined, arrogant ignorance.

Great answer LTC King.....we on the ground...in the Infantry....did not have any doubt as to what our mission was...maybe that's why they called us "ground pounders," and "grunts?"........

We sure lost a great deal of our credibility due to the politicians and they are at it again ! Too bad, the Military did their job and did it well as they always do. You are correct, We did know what our job was !
