Colonel, you might want to buy a TV, a laptop, or a newspaper subscription. President Obama has VERY MANY TIMES asked the Congress to discuss ways to reduce gun violence, and he's very often directed the Justice Department to investigate violent incidents and implement solutions. He has deployed many, many units to many countries to combat local warlords, root out terrorists, and defend against Russian threats.

Another thought: Why does the President of the nation need to police the cities and states? Seems like a "big, intrusive government" thing to do.

Reduce gun violence? Violent criminals will be violent regardless of the tools available to commit violent acts. The Minnesota stabbings or the Boston bombing or the Paris truck attacks are proof that they will find a way. You cannot regulate human behavior, there are bad people in this world and any legislation coming out of DC only hurts civilians by taking away their natural right of self defense.

Edit: Want to stop gun violence? Removing the criminal element of chicago alone will drop our crime stats exponentially.

Cpl (Join to see) - A few observations: A) Violent criminals and "bad people in this world" come from somewhere. Like you and me, they started out as good children. And then were molded by 15-20 years of influence from parents, teachers, neighbors, role models, the education system, the economic system, the justice system, the playground, and more. B) The bombing and truck attack were planned political warfare, a totally different matter. The other 99% of violent crime is sudden brainless passion, and the damage done can be limited by whatever weapons are close at hand. C) We influence human behavior all the time in many subtle ways, too numerous to mention in a post. D) Your comment on "legislation...only hurts" is probably talking about gun regulations. There is SO much more that can be done to reduce violent crime in America. E) You suggest "removing the criminal element." So should we permanently imprison every first-time offender?

he's spoken out against violence in the cities numerous times. It's well documented and easy to find if you really wanted to know.
