While sad, it is great news that the "discovery of peeling and crumbling insulation in avionics cooling lines inside the fuel tanks" occurred during scheduled depot-level maintenance of the F-35A Lightning II as opposed to catastrophic failure of any of the aircraft SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL.
This is great news which will hopefully help inform engineers and designers of problems and poor assumptions with the system design.

Every war fighting platform will have bugs. It is best to find bugs during maintenance.

I know a Next Gen Plane is going to have bugs but how much cash do we need to sink it to it before we start seeing a return.
