Good thing I didn't have coffee when reading this. Seriously funny (and sadly true).

I agree with you. I would have spit my tea across the table. Just brilliantly funny ...and as you said: "...sadly true."

There are people out there like this. They can get carried away with military jargon, attire and what not, but could it be that it's just they are very prideful for what they have done? Me for example, I don't wear my dogtags, but when someone mentions what I do, I tell him. If that person wants to know more about my military career, I'll let them know. I also know when to stop talking about it too. Yeah, I'll share some "war stories" (if you call it that) but nothing to outlandish to where it sounds like a over-rated lie.

Just to add, if I was caught wearing my boots, belt or just my PT shirt with civilian attire, I would be a target for current and prior service to lay right into me. I have seen people wearing ACU trousers, PT shirts, and command ballcaps but I won't be the one to look like an ass and out them when I don't know what they are doing.

PO1 John Crafton - If you have sons/daughters, neice/nephews, cousins...give it to them as a handdown of history.

I still wear a cap that says "Navy Veteran" from time to time, but that's about it. Its not a part of my everyday attire.

PO3 Leroy Walters - That's a bit different. Usually I see people wearing command ball caps (ex: USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT) with civilian attire and they are apart of that command. From my understanding, the command ball cap is only to be worn in uniform if you are attached to that command. A Navy Vet hat is usually alright. I have my Uncles command ball cap when he was in the Navy during Vietnam.

I know a Navy guy that fits most of that description. He still wears his dog tags and Navy pt shirt and ALWAYS reminds everybody he was in the Navy.

Hey! Y'all are the ones wearing uniforms that only camouflage you when you need to be seen. Like when you fall overboard.
