Thanks for letting us know SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL I concur with award payments to ex-spouses of service members based on the rank and years of service at the time of divorce — not the rank and years of service at the time of retirement in the cases where the non0,miitray spose deserted the military spouse [that happened to me and that former spouse remarried twice afterwards and we had a divorce decree which forbids her from getting any of my retirement assets.]
In cases where a military souse deserts the non-military spouse and the former spouse does not remarry, I think the payments to ex-spouses of service members based on the rank and years of service at the time of retirement.

I remember while I was in many members making the statement "they would get out before their 20 before giving up half". Don't know if they would actually do it or not. I am all for paying for "time served" or in this case time of marriage to divorce. Why should the service member regardless of male or female have to give half because of a 3yr marriage.

I personally know a guy that got off of AD at 17.5 years "So that BITCH would not get a dime".
There's LOTS more to the story but he eventually got his 20. She got none of his Pension.

I've seen this way to many times. Had an individual who was a SSG/E6 with fifteen years and the spouse hired a very good attorney that got the judge to give up their marital home and car which he still owed on and required him to maintain the car note for another year and to top it off stated he would have to pay half his retirement once he left! I thought he was going to kill himself but he kept his composure and dropped his packet to get out, at this time he was indefinite so he could get out and the Chain of Command backed him
