Congress Urged to Act as Zika Money Dries Up

This is yet another horrible example of how dysfunctional and failed our political process has become in DC when funding like this goes unapproved because of all the collateral BS provisions tacked onto the basic request. Someone will tack funding for abortions onto the basic bill and people like Ted Cruz will shut down the gvt and let a million babies will become infected because he is against abortions on religious grounds. No compromise, no prisoners, no quarter given or shown in an all-out ideological struggle.

President Obama asked Congress for additional funding a long while ago. Governor Scott has been trying to get them all to recognize this is a national problem since February. I posted a question about Zika, and many responses were that it did not seem like a problem. Living here in Florida, I know how fast mosquitoes can breed. Now we have our own mosquitoes starting to carry the virus. Zika is not fatal but it is horrendous if pregnant women contract it. It can also be transmitted through sexual relations, so an infected man can transmit to women. If it is not kept in check, it can move all the way up the seaboard into the Southern United States. I am tired of this blame game. Work together as this is a national problem. Already 30 service members have contracted it including a pregnant soldier. Not sure where the soldiers were infected, but she may have a child with serious birth defects.
