SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL -The mission creep will be for the better in the taking of MOSUL and this time it will be the Iraqis in the lead and US Forces giving the guidance. I just fear the Iraqi Army made up of soldiers from different tribes, ethnic groups and a mix of Shia and Sunni won't be able to work together nor understand each other (Shia& Sunni Arab, Kurd, Turkomen) and win. Last time I checked, there was no penalty for desertion in Iraq.
AL Hawija, near Kirkuk, is a bad town. It is full of Saddam Republican Guard and Security Services retirees that used to attack power lines and we never could get cooperation of the city fathers of that town as I recall. As the Battalion Liaison Officer, I subbed for the BN XO or the S3 at weekly targeting meetings in the Spring and Summer of 2005 when I was with the 2-116 CAV BDE. Our Brigade relieved the 25th ID. We were at the Kirkuk Regional Air Base also known as FOB Warrior.

SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL - notice we had funny signs behind my selfie with my big digital camera before I phones. These signs left by the 25th ID. Geese Crossing. LOL.

SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL - Roger that same here. I went to at least 5 Ramp Ceremonies so when I heard that ISIL took over, I was freaking upset thinking that those soldiers/marines/Navy and airmen assigned to convoys died for nothing.

SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL - I was a Fobbit, but I did go to five ramp ceremonies so this was not like being at Fort Irwin-NTC. We did have achmed the terrorist types sometimes shoot a 107mm rocket but always landed in the cemetery or the runway. For every trigger puller you have up to 25 others that don't go out and hunt terrorists because we are part of support/logisitics or HQ.

Thanks for sharing the unsurprising news SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL that the USA is incrementally increasing the number of USA forces as troops begin rebuilding a key Iraqi airfield outside of the Islamic State stronghold of Mosul. It is interesting that the airfield was home to a U.S. Army brigade headquarters and was known as “FOB Endurance.”
