GI RIGHTS - FREE SPEECH IN THE MILITARY

This is pamphlet about the rights of the Service Member, as it pertains to free speech and protesting. I understand that not everyone is going to agree with policies, political beliefs, religion, etc... There are basic human rights, those we can all agree upon.

However, when we put on this uniform, we fall under the UCMJ; military regulations impose important limitations you need to know about. People in the military don't have the same constitutional right to express themselves as civilians do. Courts have upheld some of these limitations, reasoning that the right to free speech must give way if the military says that is necessary for it to accomplish its mission.

Do your research, speak your mind, but... never bring discredit upon yourself, your unit, or your service.
