Interesting and an aircraft i have never heard about before Your posting. I'm aware however the Russians had stolen designs for other US aircraft the B29 being one example. Three B29's that during WWII had made emergency landings and Russian airfields were kept by the Russians although they did release the US aircrew member but NOT the aircraft. One Individual I know had a father that had flown as a pilot in the Russian Air Force the Russian B29 copy called the Tupolev, TU 4 . The B29 was the first operational aircraft with a pressurized cabin. Joseph Stalin ordered that they be reproduced exactly as they had been and the Russian engineers did so at the threat of their lives if they didn't. One of My friends Who is a retired USAF Command Pilot had helped put the C17 into operation and was a pilot of that aircraft as well and later flew the new KC10 Tankers in addition. He finished His Air Force carrier as the Pilot for Air Force 2 but now flies for Delta Airlines .

This, along with the YC-15 was a failed attempt to replace the C-130 with a jet-engined plane. The C-130 is still going strong today, so we know how it ended.

Maj (Join to see) - Yes, correct and more than 70 countries fly the C130 in their own Armed Forces. The C130 aircraft is a real success story in it's own right. Also it seems to Me the higher up on the wing jet engine was maybe an attempt to hopefully prevent FOD, Foreign object damage by jet engine sucking items up from the ground surface. a prop job such as a C130 Would not be anywhere near as prone to that FOD hazard.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter - Agreed on the engine placement. It mimics the old high-engined Catalina sea planes. I'm sure it's even higher because the jet intake is more susceptible to FOD trashing the inner workings.

I've always liked C-130s since I grew up around Little Rock AFB. They still buzz downtown Little Rock pretty frequently.

OH ~~ W H O A. ~ NELLIE,!!
I'd Heard Of These Crafts Decades Ago,
But Never Had The Opportunity To Actually SEE One In Flight.
I'd Pay Some Really Nice Bucks To Jump Into One And Feel Her Take Off And Land;
But An Offer To Just Cruise Around For An Hour Or So, Would NOT Be Rejected~
~ THAT Must Be A Great Sensation ~ Like Flying Through The Air In A 15 Story Building..
