During times of great stress, the Roman Rebublic called forth a General to secure the Empire. Once accomplished, the General would deliver the power back to the Senete and go home.

"The presumptive Democratic nominee is a hair away from federal indictment"....not really. I have no doubt he is a phenomenal leader, and regardless of service, a man we'd follow. But we had another four star general who also was a good man, respected, and revered by many worldwide succumb to the DC life. Powell would've been a great President being he's been through it all, his doctrine is still talked about today, and he is a very relevant man anywhere he goes. Powell fell on the sword with Iraq, and I believe he was done wrong, and since has shied away from politics. Patreus is another, but in his case, while he too is well liked, he doesn't command the respect and reverence of these two. His ego got the best of him, and he's "paying the price". Problem is that price is paying HIM. I wouldn't mind hearing him speak on topics that are influencing the world, give more insight to his thought processes. I think the article mentions he has to run as a conservative. If it said that, that's the only way for conservatives to win? If so, that's sad. What does HE claim? It would be nice if RP could get him to do a QnA. This would be historic and a LOT more informing than the last two softball taking "candidates" we've had so far.

I agree on all counts and unfortunately on the softball candidates the looser is the United States.

Interesting choice. The Centrist Party. Too late to get on the ballots, but could do a massive write-in. It's all about the electoral college. Perhaps, they can refuse to vote?
