There are a lot of older technologies that are great career moves. Why? Many of the programmers who are experts in them are retiring yet the systems remain. I used to work in the IT department at Staples and we often joked we that we should have been rpg programmers! Throw in a foundation of busisness acumen and, like all jobs, a desire to solve problems, and you'll never be very high demand.

COBOL is not going anywhere anytime soon.
