It will most likely have to be line of sight, unless you use fiber optics to concentrate the light down a cable.

The pessimist in me asks "What are the cons of li-fi?" I can think of a few without knowing too much about this new technology.
What if just one source of light is cut off? There goes LOS (Line Of Site)
