I've lived in Gun Crazy Florida Before. Wild West was never as Dangerous as Florida is with all the not so stable Gun Enthusiast.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel I live in Florida now, I go to the range as often as I can. I go to the gun store just for fun. I consider ammunition to be an impulse buy. You are right there are parts of Florida that are very dangerous. They are high drug areas, high crime areas. The "not so stable gun enthusiast" is not the problem. The problem is criminals with guns. Gun enthusiasts are the ones getting pissed because liberal pussies are trying to re-interpret the clear language of the second amendment because they don't understand defending their nation. Gun enthusiasts are the ones jumping through all the hoops laid out to impede our purchase of a firearm so that we can enjoy our hobby. Gun Enthusiasts are the ones going to the range and practicing so that they can accurately shoot their firearm. Gun Enthusiasts are the ones who are teaching their children gun safety so that when they see a gun, they don't become an accident statistic. So I will say I am damned proud to be one of your Florida Unstable Gun Enthusiasts. Though I am working on my balance, and I use a wide stance at the range so my stability is getting better.

The problem everyone has is a desire for a magic bullet. It doesn't exist. It can't exist. I bought my car legally. There is no way for the dealer to know I'm going to get laid off in a year, drop into a deep depression and then decide I can't-go-on-anymore and plow into thirty people with that same car. Same with guns. Biometric sensors won't work. All it will do is prove that the person pulling the trigger owns the gun. The gun has no way of knowing the firer is drunk, angry, religious, etc.
Florida's "wild-West" lifestyle is no different from any other state. If I legally buy a gun in New York and I'm in New Mexico, theres no law that says I can't give/sell that gun to my buddy/wife/Army pal, etc. Theres no exhortation to run a criminal check, etc. So the "loophole" really isn't a loophole. It exists everywhere for everything.

Point is moot.. Last I heard is that he purchased all weapons from a gun store. Blame privacy policies for this one. The only thing I can see is that he had a documented mental condition, in which HIPPA prevents NICS from doing its job completely. Any state would have sold this individual a firearm with a background check under current standards.
