SGT (Join to see) Good information. USAA also has a car-buying service which deals with dealerships they have somehow vetted or trust enough to work with. Another source is a used car purchased on base from another SM. I got my first car at age 20 through an ad in the Camp Pendleton base newspaper A Capt was selling his '61 VW Bug. He had kept it in perfect condition. It served me very well for the next 6+ years through the rest of my enlistment and all through college.

Capt Tom Brown, Those VW's back then had a lot of staying power. I had a 71 super beetle I drove for years. An engineer at work asked me all the time when I was going to sell it. I sold it to him and I know he had it for a long time. Their heating system was always too hot for me, but it was a good idea. I didn't know USAA sold cars too. I tried using them for my auto insurance, but their rates were too high. I tried getting a life insurance policy from them, but got turned down for my PTSD. I tried getting home insurance from them and found out they don't service Harris County, due to all the claims from Ike.
