I disagree with the premise of this article SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL.
Widows and widowers of retired military spouses are free to remarry if they choose, true love is an action and not a feeling. The non-military spouse will be required to give up military benefits if they marry somebody who has no military service.
What is not mentioned is how many service members divorce and remarry - there are calculations in many states that essentially if the divorce occurs before the marriage has lasted 10 years then the non-military spouse is not entitled by law to retirement financial benefits - unless it is specified in the divorce degree.
I know of many military divorces where previous spouses marry military service members.

LTC Stephen F. great points of interest as you are a experienced Soldier whom knows the military quite well. I did not get it as I was reading the article. Great compare/contrast on the pros/cons of the thread(read)! Much appreciated for the in-depth response.
