He's right. Got Soldiers who have no idea what land nav is without using a GPS, cannot qualify without using an optic, need an app for just about everything to do nothing. Sometimes you have to go back to the future to make them understand what you really need to get a job done. When was the last time a SAEDA (yes I know the names changed) where they spoke on randomly stopping to see if you're being followed, changing your routine, checking your vehicles for sudden changes? All this stuff these Marines are being taught isn't new or revolutionary. It used to be taught fairly regularly, but we had this sudden thing called war and certain basics fell to the side.

On land. USMC close combat warriors just like US Army close combat warriors have been human hunters since before WWI. Perhaps they have gotten away from tracking skills. If so I hope they hone up on them.
Relying on technology to function perfectly 24/7 is a non-starter.
