The Submarine Force was honored by the decision of HMCM(SS) Charette to join after his combat experience and Heroism. I was honored to meet and salute Master Chief Charette when he was assigned to RTC Orlando just as we opened Nuclear Power School Orlando in the mid 80s.. He was very humble and always chewed me out ( I was an O-3) when I would cross the street or parade ground just to show my respect to his well earned MOH.

Thank you for honoring US Navy Master Chief William Richard Charette on the anniversary of his birth. SGT John " Mac " McConnell. I am glad that he survived the actions March 27, 1953, during the Korean War, that merited the award of the Medal of Honor as a hospital corpsman.
Medics tend not to be armed because their focus is on helping the wounded and injured; yet, there are a significant number of combat medics who have been awarded the nations highest honor. William Richard Charette was just such a medic who was focused on saving Marines while risking his life over and over to tend to the needs of the wounded and dying.
