No, I'm afraid not! Marine Basic Training was much different. They didn't try and make us feel at home at all. Hell, when I pulled into Parris Island, which was very early in the morning, The DIS stepped onto that bus and they were like ragging maniacs. Yelling and screaming and swearing like hell and calling us all kinds of names. One boot who was sitting in front of me did something and the next thing I knew, a DI broke the bus window with his head. Right there, I knew I was going to be in the shits for good. Welcome to the Marine Corps!

CPO Emmett (Bud) Carpenter
Sgt David G Duchesneau - When I joined the Navy they sent 7 draftees to the Marines. Like you said "deer looking into the headlights ".

CPO Emmett (Bud) Carpenter - Bud, I'm sure those seven poor bastards all had the trout look. And for those of you who don't know what that means, "Trout Look" it's with their mouth wide open.

MSG Louis Alexander
CPT Jack Durish - LOL Barry Sadler made a fortune with that crazy tune...pissed a lot of people off. Marines were probably thinking “Fighting soldiers from the sky”? WTH is he singing about Norse mythology of the Viking Valkyries? Nothing but mass confusion from day one!!

That was nothing like my first day in the Navy. It was nothing like the Marines but the chief that met us had to be the meanest SOB I have ever met.
