I'm sure glad he came up with this theory with as many surgerys that I have went thru. Infection are a nasty thing and can kill you two different way. Either slow painful death or a quick death.

After a little research I confirmed that the Lister bag [Lyster Bag] is linked to William John Le Hunte Lyster, (1869–1947) who was an American army surgeon. It is interesting to me that The Lyster of Lister bag fame was also a researcher in the public health field. SSgt (Join to see)
Lyster had a career as a surgeon in the United States Army medical corps. Interested in the field of public health, he began experiments in water purification with the use of sodium hypochlorite. In 1917 he introduced a rubber-lined heavy canvas bag with a tight-fitting cover. A dose of chlorine solution added to the water effected purification within 30 minutes. The Lister bag quickly became a standard piece of army equipment and was used extensively in both world wars.

Was the old hospital at Ft Knox named for him? I woke up there during Basic with respiratory issues after collapsing right after a double session of PT in 100 degree weather.
