There are many factors to a command "atmosphere". I worked with lots of general officers. The best generals were the ones who let subordinates do their jobs and I se initiative and demonstrate their skill proficiency. It fostered espirit d'Corps and comradeship which let to cohesion and excellence. There were some screamers but they didn't get promoted. The bad bosses were 0-4/0-6 who weren't Subject matter experts who BS'd & gamed the system - the fast track golden children. They tended to be micro-managers, unable to "trust" staff, focused on next assignment - not concerned with development of subordinates. Those fears and anxieties (they know they are frauds) manifest with bully behavior. We've all seen them.

I had some great leaders, but the ones that stick out for me the most are the bad/worse ones. Reason being is that they (bad ones) hurts so many individuals’ careers and families. I came across an individual that his leadership style was yelling, screaming at soldiers/individuals and belittle those in senior positions, but junior to him. He had a circle of individuals that I called them the “selected ones”. These individuals misbehave and broke every single rule that were in place, the command climate was toxic. He saw leadership strength in others as a treat. Will do anything in his power to demine, bring down and make their life miserable. Superior above him, saw him as a strong leader. They saw the entire unit climate as “as long, I don’t hear anything bad, everything is ok”. I am not sure where or what he is doing now, but one thing I can guarantee you is that, he sure is making someone’s life is miserable.
My inspiration came from the ones that no matter what, will stick with what was right. I learned from the bad ones the "not to do" aspects of life.
The good ones: GEN Packet III, COL Abramowitz, COL Foreman, COL Brown, LTC Murphy, CW4 Smith, CW4 Grady, CW4 Buttler, CW4 Williams, CSM Rabon, CSM Simon, CSM Mingo, CSM Plattenberg, CSM Curddle, CSM Tainatongo, CSM Mitchell, CSM LM Morgan, SGM Clarke, SGM Lynch, 1SG Blair, 1SG Mahaney, 1SG Borja (Nielsen), 1SG Belle, 1SG MaCarthur, 1SG Rosado, 1SG Hill, 1SG Graves, SGT Norskog (Jennie), SFC Garcia, SFC Allen, SFC Diaz, SPC Ortiz, SPC Drone, SGT Fulp, and many others. The reason I selected these names is that I got the opportunity of seeing them taking care of soldiers and doing anything to help others, the unit, the mission and this great Nation.
