This is a great story. There's also a Korean man, Yang Kyoungjong, who fought for the Japanese, Russians, and Germans before he was captured by Americans on Utah Beach.

PO3 Donald Murphy
Captured by the Japanese and impressed into their army. While fighting the Russians at Kalkin Gol, he was captured by the Russians who were impressed enough with him to keep him in their army. During the battles in and around Stalingrad, he was captured by the Germans and ended up in a dugout on Normandy and was subsequently captured by the Americans.

Capt Daniel Goodman
One of the gross anatomy teaching assistants (TAs) in my clinical doctoral all is health program has been a South Vietnamese physician which been a Viet Cong or North Vietnamese POW, highly trained in hand to hand combat, though I only found that out much later, his knowledge of gross anatomy was virtually encyclopedic...he'd actually also been I'd learned later, a personal bodyguard to Pope John Paul Ii, I don't know if he was there when that whole craziness that led to the popemobile happened...I do know the Pope personally recommended him to the doctoral program, which was at a small Catholic school, he was evidently a devout Catholic, the Pope personally arranged his attending while I'd also been there, though he was ahead of me, as well as incredibly highly clinically traixned...and yeah, I know it's an amazing story, I didn't believe it at first mtself, however, I'd learned later on from my faculty it was all apparently quite true, unreal though it sounds....

Thanks for sharing an intriguing story about Larry Thorne aka Lauri Törni who had been fighting the Soviets for much of his adult life SGT John " Mac " McConnell. I noticed from the middle picture that he served in the Waffen SS. In WWII nations changed sides periodically from Russia allying with Nazi Germany to being attacked by the Germans and their allies in Operation Barbarossa.
Lauri Törni fought the Russians in the winter war and what the Finns called the Continuation War in Finland up until 1944 when as things worked out he was able to fight with a Waffen SS formation against the Russians in the German Army North area or operations [most likely].
After being imprisoned by teh British he managed to enlist in the US Army and serve during the cold war against teh soviet union.
